I did not mention it but I turned 40 last month. I did write a post about the last day of being in my Thirties but I deleted it because it went in a direction I was not trying to go but felt good to spend the time writing about. So I wrote a long heart felt message that no one will ever see because I needed to get somethings off my chest but not be judged for it. I say all that to point out that I had a significant day in my life happen and I want to talk about it a little.
I have been going through some major mentality changes brought about by a book I just finished and it has not only effected the man I am but the Dad and especially the coach I am. Due to this book I decided to mark my 40th birthday with a challenge to myself and I will be reading 40 books before my 41st birthday. Seems like a lot and has been a bit harder to maintain over time. This is on top of my Bible in a year plan I am doing with my wife for our 17th anniversary.
I am a weirdo and I am not reading 1 book but currently 3 books. I will say that one is an audio book I have been listening to while driving. So I am allowing myself 1 audio book at a time and all books must be nonfiction and something to make me a better person, coach or Christian. I was reading one of each style I finished 1 today and will finish the other 2 in the next couple days. I also have a new book ready to go starting tomorrow.
I will not just be reading these books I will discuss them here as I finish each one. I will write a quick little book report of sorts tomorrow about the one I finished today. Mostly because the book is in my room right now and if I go in there now I will be going to bed and the spelling of the authors name matters and some other things about the book I would like to have in front of me when I am writing.
So along with my 40 book challenge and me and my wife’s Bible plan, I am also now setting time daily aside to write. Someday it will be here but most days it will be for the book I am trying to get out of my head and onto paper. Ive started many times and have many chapters done on the book but I need to organize that mess and finish writing that book so I will be forcing myself by enforcing a new habit on myself.
Without getting into the book I will be talking about tomorrow to much I’ve learned that you don’t just let things happen on their own. You must will them into existence one day at a time until its just a normal habit of yours. You didn’t just one day say hey I want to drink a monster everyday before breakfast. You started doing it one day at a time until it was habit. The same can be said about a good habit you wish to add to your life. You must add it yourself on purpose one day at a time until you make it “normal”.
That’s all I will say for now on the subject but I will say that teaching an old dog a new trick wasn’t as hard as you would think. So stay tuned for the next few months and see what books I end up reading.
Book 1 : Win the Day
Book 2 : The Dad Coach
Book 3 : A Case for Christ.
