I have been super busy with life and sports the past couple weeks. That coupled with I tend not to want to jump to conclusions or get too down or too up about a team until I see them play. We started soccer and are a little over a week out from the start of gameplay. I get the opportunity not only to coach both my older girls but also my son this year so its been a little extra work.
I have been hitting the park up all year about letting this season be an 11U season so I could coach both my girls again and I got that this season. We go into this season as the last season for my two girls at the recreational level. My second daughter may move to travel ball but as far as the recreational league goes we have decided not to continue that course because after 11 it’s kind of weird playing co-ed for safety and properness reasons. So this is the last season of coaching the girls in soccer. I was able to put together a pretty solid team of kids that for the most part have all played multiple seasons with me. So I walk into the season with a group of kids who know each other and are the core of our 3rd/ 4th place finish last year. They didn’t let us play the other team for final seeding just lost in the semifinals to the team that won it all. This is also the largest season we have been apart of with 7 teams so it should be alot of fun this season.
My early thoughts on the team mean nothing like I already said what I can say is that my best players look better and my daughters are on point this season so I expect a decent season and to at least be in the semifinals again if not the finals this season. Other than that I will leave the rest to myself until I see how the season turns out to see if I’m right or wrong about a few things.
I also get to assistant coach and 8U team with my son on it. This team is a team that has been together for going on 4 seasons. At least the core of the team has been together for a while. I am super excited to see how this team turns out because they are young we brought a bunch of them up early to stay together and we will see how well they do and hopefully see them grow up right in front of us.
Now the thing we are especially looking forward to is that we are a couple of weeks away from picking up our fall baseball team. We have been super excited about this since the all-star season ended. I have seen the list of kids and I am ready to get those kids onto the field and get ready for a fall season. I understand the fall season is less competitive as far as all-star selections go and mostly you get the kids who just love baseball in the fall. I can’t wait to share how that goes because at the 6U level, it’s less about winning and more about developing players so it’s so much more fun to teach and watch the kids learn.
I love this time of year because it’s perfect soccer weather and fall ball so close it makes the days so much more fun and worth going to bed so I can wake up for the next practice.
