I think it is important for everyone to have something to turn to that gives them a sense of purpose. For a lot of us, this is a hobby or something that takes our mind off of the human drum lives we live. For others, it is literally the thing that gives them the only pleasure they get in life. No matter what it is, I fully encourage my children to find hobbies that make them happy, fully knowing that at some point in life, they will need to fall back on that thing to get them through hard times. I have fallen back many times on fishing or gardening to take my mind away from things that were weighing my life down.
My second daughter got very interested in baking and asked us to buy her a bunch of cake making and decorating stuff that she wanted real bad for Christmas.

Last week she made a cake that she really wanted to make. Once she was finished, she was so proud of it that something happened that hadn’t happened in something like twenty years. I ate a slice of the cake. Honestly, I ate it just to be supportive of her passion and nothing else. I wish I could tell you my mind has changed and her cake made me a cake fan but sadly I still dislike cake but I will always eat a piece of hers if nothing else to be her biggest fan.
I will forever be my children’s biggest fan whether I’m yelling “Get it Girl” as my daughter is about to jump in the pool or eating a slice of cake that I would rather feed to the dog than eat myself not because it is bad but because I hate cake. Hopefully, she does not want to bake every week, but if she does, then Im here for her.
