Oh, we are two days out from the start of the big short course season meet. I don’t remember a big, long course, meet last year, just a big short course one last year too. For those who don’t know, the swimming year is broken down into two seasons. Short course, which is 25 meters long and long course, which is 50 meters long. Pools like the one we are at have the ability to put up a section divider in short course season and take it out during long course to go back to Olympic size 50 meters.

The team she is currently on goes to one big meet every year. We do go to smaller ones that truly are just as important swim wise individually, but this meet for the team score is the biggest. Last year, we went to the University of Auburn for their big meet there, and that was cool getting to see where UofA plays football next door and to see Bo Jackson’s name up on the baseball field.

This year, however, we are going to Huntsville, Alabama. It’s much closer yet, still a great pool, I am told. I do not know yet as I have never seen it myself. We are staying the whole three days, which is weird for us because we normally do not let our children compete on Sundays. This was a heavly prayed about decision by us. I am still not sure which direction we will go in the future on this particular issue, but for this meet, we will be participating in the Sunday swims that we normally opt out of. This is something we will have to deal with in the future as higher level events will have Sunday events.

Besides our current struggle with sporting events and days, we are super excited to be going to watch Zoey compete. The events she will be competing in are the 500m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 50m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke, and 50m Backstroke. She has a qualifying time in each of these except the 500m. This is her first time swimming any distance in a competition past 100m. I think she will excel eventually in long distance as she is really good at pace but not as good at water sprints, aka 50m times.

We are pretty much all set to go. We have to get the food prepped tomorrow for the weekend. Other than that, bags are getting ready as the last of the laundry is being finished right now. I just saw Zoey pack her swim bag for the weekend. So we are almost ready to walk out the door on Friday.

I’m excited to let yall know the outcome of the event, but I’m not telling till next Wednesday, so stay tuned. I also learned how to embed videos in this blog, so I’ll try and get some of her swims in here, along with photos of finish times and pictures of the pool.
