It’s not the first post for the Swimming Bean we expected to write, BUT life throws emails at you that you don’t expect and that happened yesterday changing the entire outlook of 2025 and the future of our little swimmer.
A couple of weeks ago, Zoey came home upset because her coach was leaving her team. I went and had a conversation with him because I was concerned with who was taking over her group. He reassured me that the team was being taken over by capable hands.
Then the email came out yesterday that the person taking over my daughter’s group was the exact person we did not want to. I do not wish to talk badly about someone, so I will leave it at this. This person is not someone we wish to train our child or coach her at another Swim meet due to bad experiences.
I took the time to ask some questions of the head coach of the team and voice my concern over that coach taking over, and he answered very snobby like so, me and my wife without discussing it came to the same conclusion that we would be pulling our daughter from that team and searching for a new one.
I wrote and talked to the other two closest teams to us and setup try outs and visitations over the next couple weeks. We also still have a swim meet (the largest of the season) in two weeks, so we will stay with her current team until after that meet, then we will be deciding between the other teams where we will be going.
Even though it seems like an overreaction and a quick one at that. This is not the case this coach was her coach in the past and we actually were about to do this when a new coach came and talked us out of it and asked for her to join his group even if it was technically for kids a little more advanced than her. So we didn’t leave when we originally were going to, and under his tutorage, she grew leaps and bounds.
In the next few weeks, we will keep everyone updated on tryouts, the upcoming meet, and our final decision on what team we will be joining.
